Rising Stars Programme
Our RISING STARS programme is held on Tuesday and Thursday Afternoons. The sessions begin at 12.45pm and finish at 3.15 pm. Not only do the children learn valuable skills, they are introduced to the way in which a classroom works. So, instead of being thrown in the deep end on day one of school, why not try these sessions and allow your child the opportunity of being in a classroom situation with the teachers he or she already knows in an environment that they are comfortable and happy in.
We endeavour to be creative and multi dimensional within these sessions. Some sessions focus on a popular book that the children love. We use the numeric and literacy within the story to develop skills within the children. Sometimes we work in small groups sometimes in large groups. Creative writing and drawing are a huge part of these sessions. Children are not given pre-produced work sheets with endless rows of numbers to complete to the teachers satisfaction. Any "paper work" that is done has been designed by the teachers to support the skill that is being promoted. The children are not given homework to do. We want the children to succeed at any task and to gain self confidence and independence. Which is why the sessions are stimulating, interesting and lots of fun.
The concepts covered in these sessions include alphabet identification, phonic awareness, numeral identification, correspondence counting, geometrical recognition, prepositions, and so on. These concepts are all presented in a fun and exciting style, where each child is able to succeed at their stage of development.
The children have afternoon tea at about 2.00pm and then are free to choose what they would like to do either inside or outside. We tidy up about 2.45pm them return inside for stories or games.
We also teach the children about turn taking and the importance of participation. These skills are learnt by playing board games and outside games such as What's the time Mr. Wolf.
Come in and see us at any time.
